June 19th 2010: Midsummer's Big Night, Bruntingthorpe

This was truly a night to remember. Over 1000 guests attended and were greeted on their arrival by the summer-sound of the Contrast Steel Band and local sporting personality, Matt Poole. Comedy duo, "Fingers and Fumbs" then proceeded to get the evening off to a cracking start with their own particular brand of mad humour and song. Our local Regiment's marching band heralded the arrival of the luxury hampers which were presented to each table  with a flourish by a member of the British Army. As guests enjoyed the contents of their hamper's they were serenaded by none other than Ol' Blue Eyes himself (well, nearly) who entertained us with all our old favourites from Frank Sinatra. We were then treated to a marvellous performance by Daisy Milburn, Kate Reid and Oli Dewes from Lutterworth College.

The second part of the evening began with an auction of such high-octane events that the auctioneer could barely keep up with the frantic bidding, a staggering amount was raised in what seemed like just a few moments - thank you to all who took part. Matt Poole then introduced members of Leicester Tigers doing their own"Stars in your Eyes" - one particular Tiger did an impressive Elvis to an extremely enthusiastic and loud audience, while others performed their moves on a large stage screen - amazing! Then a young singer-songwriter called Hannah B with her band had everyone on the dance-floor in seconds as she entertained us with a mix of well-known dance hits and her own incredible music. The audience loved her and no doubt we will be hearing a lot more from this rising star! The evening finished with London based band Arcadia - the dance-floor was packed as they entertained us until the lights were dimmed at 1.30 pa.m. It really was a very special night.

Our thanks to the Beighton and Walton families who organised and hosted the event and to the their committee and team of helpers who helped make it such a memorable night. Thank you to Matt Poole who did a great job as Maitre D despite feeling ill and nearly losing his voice on the night - and a special thank you to all the guests for their generosity and support.
